Yarmouth Water District Summer Updates

Yarmouth Water District Board of Trustees elects new chair, summer meeting minutes published.

The Yarmouth Water District Board of Trustees approved a new chair at its June 14 business meeting. The Board elected North Yarmouth resident, Andy Walsh, in a 5-0 vote to become the chair. The previous chair, Irving Felker, announced at the May meeting he would be retiring.

The Board will honor Felker’s 33 years of service at a future date.

William (Bill) Taylor was elected to fill Felker’s seat and joined the Board in July. Stephen Gorden was reelected. Their terms will end in 2026.

The Yarmouth Water District (YWD) held its 100th annual meeting on June 14. Superintendent Eric Gagnon reported for 2022, YWD installed 26 new services, 1 fire hydrant, 1,471 feet of new water main, 35 new meters, and 53 meter replacements.

According to Gagnon, total water production for 2022 was 295,251,000 gallons from the District’s wells, a 0.4% decrease from 2021 and a decrease of 7.9% from 2020. Gagnon added, YWD purchased 120,056,992 gallons of water from the Portland Water District to supply Wyman Station and a few residential customers.

Work completed this summer includes a distribution system flush for both Yarmouth and North Yarmouth. YWD is also continuing meter replacement.

Gagnon noted YWD is behind for this project but said a lot of progress had been made so far this year with 270 replacements completed year to date.

Board of Trustees monthly meeting reports are available on the Yarmouth Water District website.
