Yarmouth Water District Announces Rate Increase

NYFV

North Yarmouth residents will be seeing an increase on their water bills in 2022.

Beginning January 1, 2022, North Yarmouth residents will be paying more for water. Yarmouth Water District (YWD) held a public hearing on September 14 to discuss the rate increase with area residents.

The raise is in response to increased operating expenses and a capital improvement bond.

Residential service increase is set at 9.67%. Minimum water bills will increase from $54.15 per quarter to $59.36, approximately 6 cents per day. The average customer bill is expected to increase by 10 cents per day.

At recent a Select Board meeting, residents questioned whether the increase is related to impact of residential and business growth in village center. Residents asked the Board to determine whether TIF revenue can be used to offset costs related to infrastructure improvements, such as a new pumping station to increase flow for North Yarmouth. Village Estates (Phase II) will not have water until the new boosting pump is installed.

YWD stated it had not changed its rates since March 2019.
