The inaugural North Yarmouth Block Party is set for Saturday, August 26.
Residents will see things they might recognize from past Fun Day or Kite Festival, but Community Center Director Jackie Hersey said this is a new community event.
The community is invited to join family, friends, and neighbors for an end-of-summer party. Festivities will kick off at 11 a.m. at the Wescustogo Hall & Community Center (WHCC) and continue until 3 p.m. Hersey said there will be something for all ages - music, food, and games but with a new twist.
Greely Football Boosters along with food trucks for Plot Twist Pretzels, Momma Baldacci’s, Black Salt, and Betty Reez WhoopieZ will be serving up a variety of food and treats from 11 am until 3 pm.
Live music by Jay Staples, along with face painting and kite making will be available from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m.
North Yarmouth Fire and Rescue will be hosting “Touch-a-Truck” and a 9-1-1 education demo.
A Pet Parade fundraiser food drive is scheduled from 12 noon - 1 p.m. on Sharp’s Field to benefit Finally Home Senior Dog Rescue & Retirement Home, and HART of Maine. Special guest judges will include North Yarmouth Veterinary Hospital. Any donations for the dog rescue should be in the form of treats or canned food for dietary needs.
Cornhole, bubble machine, and a photo booth will be available for the entire event.
To highlight the walkability of the Village Center, residents are encouraged to walk or bike to the festivities. Limited parking will be available at WHCC. An attendant will be directing cars to available areas. There will be overflow parking at the softball field, Village Green, or Sharp’s Field. For safety, residents are asked to not park along Parsonage Road.
Hersey said this is a rain-or-shine event as many of the activities can be moved to inside the WHCC if there is inclement weather.
